About the role

Reports to the Regional/ Campus Commissioning Manager & Project Director

Role Summary

The Data Centre Commissioning Manager is responsible for leading and delivering the full commissioning lifecycle for a hyperscale data centre project on behalf of our client. The role ensures that all building systems are commissioned in strict alignment with the Clients standards, technical specifications, safety requirements, and commissioning governance, culminating in successful Integrated Systems Testing (IST), turnover, and client acceptance.

The role requires strong technical leadership, disciplined process control, and the ability to operate within the end client's structured approval, reporting, and change management frameworks.

  • Develop, manage, and execute the Project Commissioning Plan/ Cx PoR in accordance with the client commissioning requirements, specifications, and templates.
  • Ensure alignment with the projects phase gates, readiness milestones, and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain compliance with the project safety, quality, documentation, and change control processes throughout commissioning.

Commissioning Planning & Delivery

  • Lead commissioning activities across all mission-critical systems, including but not limited to:
  • Electrical systems
  • Mechanical systems
  • Controls, EPMS, and BAS
  • Fire detection, suppression, and life safety systems
  • Develop detailed commissioning schedules aligned to the project baseline programme and turnover sequencing.
  • Ensure commissioning readiness through structured pre-functional checks and system walkdowns in line with the project procedures.

Integrated Systems Testing (IST)

  • Coordinate and manage the GC responsibilities in regard to IST planning, execution, and closeout in accordance with the clients test scripts and failure scenarios.
  • Manage live testing activities, load bank testing, black building / black start testing, and redundancy validation.
  • Coordinate all trades, vendors, OFCI representatives, and third-party commissioning agents during the commissioning process.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Enforce the client's safety-first culture during all commissioning and energisation activities.
  • Review and approve CX method statements, risk assessments, and energisation plans.
  • Actively manage commissioning risk registers and ensure issues are escalated and resolved in line with project requirements.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Serve as the primary commissioning interface between the General Contractor, the end client, designers, subcontractors, vendors, and third-party agents.
  • Chair regular commissioning and readiness meetings, tracking actions, constraints, and approvals.
  • Support Client-led audits, site walks, and readiness reviews.

Quality, Compliance & Assurance

  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with project specifications, local codes, and industry standards (ASHRAE, CIBSE, etc.).
  • Manage CX punch lists, defects, and non-conformances through to closure.
  • Support progressive system acceptance and phased turnover strategies.

Documentation & Handover

Support training and transition to operations teams through the TOC process.

  • Manage the production, review, and approval of all commissioning documentation, including:
  • Test scripts and procedures
  • Test results, reports, and deficiency logs
  • As-built records, O&M manuals, and asset data
  • Ensure documentation is delivered in accordance with Client formatting, data standards, and digital platforms.

Essential

  • Proven experience delivering commissioning for hyperscale data centre projects, preferably with Hyperscale clients.
  • Strong MEP background with deep understanding of mission-critical electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience operating within Hysperscale commissioning processes, governance, and reporting structures.
  • Demonstrated leadership of Integrated Systems Testing in live or near-live environments.
  • Experience working for a General Contractor on fast-track, large-scale data centre builds.

Desirable

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Commissioning or data centre certifications.
  • Experience with Hyperscale campus-style developments and phased handovers.
